The 2008-2012 IGU-Commission on Hazard and Risk is planning the International Symposium for hazard and risk jointed with Japan Geographical Association Conference as follows.

- North River and natural hazard: permanent freeze soil melting and flood,
- Amur River: flood buffer zone and land use change effective for flood mitigation,
- Lena River: Melting the soil and changing the river features,
- Hokkaido: changing the land use by human activities and river management, et. al.
